How to SUBMIT your video
Once you’ve recorded your contribution, please upload it to the shared Google Drive folder below. You can drag and drop your file directly — no Google account is required to upload.
Acceptable formats include MP4, MOV, and most other common video formats. If you’re unsure, just send whatever your device creates.
After you submit your content, I would appreciate if you would email me (Elaine) at (RussellLeimanMemorial@gmail.com) to let me know. [Please include info requested in LABELING YOUR SUBMISSION, below.]
How to LABEL Your Submission
We want to be able to caption and contextualize your contribution correctly. So please include:
- Your name(s)
- Your geographic location
- A few words about your relationship with Russell (e.g., colleague at TNC, cousin, favorite grandchild 😉, friend, classmate, etc.)
- and perhaps the timeline of when you were directly associated (if that’s not apparent)
Important Note on How Your Contribution Will Be Used
By submitting materials, you’re giving permission for your voice, image, and any content you share to be included in the Russell Leiman Legacy Film. The film will be shared with family and friends and hosted on RussellLeiman.com. It will not be used for any commercial purpose. If you have any concerns about how your contribution will be used, please don’t hesitate to ask before submitting.
Brainstorming to Get the Creative Juices Flowing
DO IT YOUR WAY: Again, there are virtually no dos or don’ts.
Doesn’t matter who you’re addressing:
- The viewing audience.
- Russell, as if he were sitting in front of you. (Guaranteed, he is!)
- Mix it up any way you wish.
Ideas to get your creative juices flowing:
- A favorite memory of your time with Russell.
- A specific moment or story that captures who Russell was.
- How did you first meet Russell? What was your first impression?
- What do you think he cared about most? What drove him?
- What did he teach you — or how did he change the way you see things?
- What was it like to work alongside him — in the field, in a meeting, on a project?
- What do you remember about him as a kid? As a friend? As a teacher?
- A moment that stayed with you.
- A quality you want people to remember.
- What would you want people who didn’t know him well to understand about him?
- What will you carry with you?
This might be your last chance to “tell the world” what you want them to know about Russell — and perhaps about your relationship with him.
This might be your last chance to say publicly what you might wish to have said to Russell directly; or to repeat what you did say.
Photos & Documents
In addition to video, we would love to have: PHOTOS!!
- Photographs of Russell — at events, in everyday life, in the field — growing up, getting old, and everything in between.
- Photos of letters, notes, or any written correspondence you’ve kept.
- Any other images or materials you feel capture him well.
You can include these with your video upload using the same Google Drive folder. JPG, PNG, and PDF formats are all fine.
TIP — Old, imperfect, or informal photos are often the most meaningful. Don’t worry if the image quality isn’t perfect — if it matters to you, it belongs in the film.
